The Vikings’ ski team and a few Whittell wild cards hit the slopes for state finals Monday and Tuesday at Sierra-at-Tahoe.

The top eight boys and top eight girls from South Tahoe, along with six standouts from Whittell, were invited to compete in the state competition. The day started with two Giant Slalom runs and ended with a regular slalom run in the afternoon.

The South Tahoe boys’ team came out on top in the GS State Championships with 107 points. North Tahoe took second with 105, and Truckee held third with 102.

Individually, South Tahoe’s Maia Bickert led the South Shore girls with a second-place finish (2:23.2), and Whittell’s Hughston Norton led the South Shore boys also coming in second (2:14.5).

The accumulated points each skier earned Monday determined their seed for Tuesday’s duals, in which the highest seed faced the lowest seed and so on. Tuesday’s race results were not received by deadline. For complete state results check Friday’s edition.
