Tom Argo remembers car camping as a child.

While his parents were stretched out in a Nash Ambassador, he and six brothers and sisters slept in a nearby tent. If a limb ever happened to be poking out of the tent, sometimes dad would grab it and growl like a bear – just for a laugh.

Car fans can take a drive into the past today through Sunday in Heavenly Village at the Rolling Chrome Tahoe Thunder Car Truck and Motorcycle Show.

It is one of six summertime car events around the lake presented by Argo’s Good Sam Safe Rides.

“Everybody is dying to get outside,” Argo said. “Finally the weather is nice. This weekend really kicks off summer with the wooden boat show, the Corvette show and Rolling thunder.”

Good Sam Safe Rides raffles custom cars and bikes every year. This summer it’s a 1952 Chevy Sedan Delivery and a Teardrop Camping Trailer. Perfect for sleeping parents in the car and kids in the trailer.
