Second shipment of H1N1 vaccine arrives

Health officials announced Thursday that the second shipment of the H1N1 flu vaccine reached El Dorado County this week.

Local doctors who have ordered the vaccine should have received their shipment, or they will receive the shipment in a few weeks, said Margaret Williams, spokesperson for the El Dorado County Health Services Department.

Individuals who would like to get the vaccine should check with their doctor.

The department will be offering the injectable vaccine by appointment only to the following targeted groups: pregnant women; household contacts and caregivers of infants under the age of 6 months; infants age 6 months to 23 months; and children ages 2 to 18 with chronic health conditions that would prevent them from receiving the nasal flu mist.

To schedule an appointment for the H1N1 flu vaccine, members of the high risk groups can call (530) 573-3155.

Additional shipments of H1N1 flu vaccine are expected in the coming weeks. The department may offer larger community flu shot clinics for the H1N1 vaccine in late November or early December.
