Senate committee meets on Wild Fire management

This morning, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources held

a hearing on “Wild Fire Management.”

The hearing focused on conditions going into the 2007 fire season and the costs of both treatment and fighting fires.

At the hearing there were several remarks regarding the Tahoe fire made by Members of Congress and those testifying:

* The Tahoe NF is the most expensive forest to treat in the U.S.

at $10,000 per acre

* “At Tahoe they seem to want to name and hug every tree before we

cut it,” ….maybe that will change now.

* (Tahoe fire) “Great tragedy, largely human caused.”
