Sheriff’s department seeks retirees for volunteer team

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department is looking for volunteers to join the Sheriff’s Team of Active Retirees (STAR) program in South Lake Tahoe.

Qualified applicants will be trained to provide community services, primarily focused on being the eyes and ears of the sheriff’s department, by patrolling the county area in vehicles provided by the program.

Members also provide vacation-home checks, assist local organizations with special events such as the Air Fest, Drug Store Project, Arts Festival, Fire Fest and various other events as requested.

Eligibility and qualifications to apply to the STAR program include being a person of good moral standards, passing a background check, providing a physicians clearance, being at least 50 years of age and a U.S. citizen, and willing to volunteer at least 19 hours per month.
