Sisters in barnyard-like brawl
April 13, 2005
KINGS BEACH – A Kings Beach woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly charging her sister with a pitchfork and ax in what may have been a methamphetamine-fueled attack.
Charmaine Patricia Leorna, 42, faces possible charges including assault with a deadly weapon, possession and use of illegal drugs, and battery, according to a report by the Placer County Sheriff’s office.
Leorna allegedly got into a confrontation with her sister, who lives next door, on the suspect’s front porch. As the argument escalated, Leorna reportedly picked up a pitchfork and threw it toward her sister.
Authorities say the sister, who was not identified, picked up the pitchfork but Leorna grabbed it from her hands. The siblings reportedly wrestled on the ground until the victim took the pitchfork and threw it over a fence.
Leorna then grabbed an ax, which she allegedly swung in the direction of her sister’s head, missing by inches, the report stated. The victim retrieved the ax and threw it over the fence as well as a cement lawn ornament that was used by Leorna.
Authorities say the suspect then knocked her sister to the ground and hit, scratched and bit her. Sheriff’s deputies arrived to seize the weapons and arrest the suspect, who was believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine. The suspect’s sister suffered minor injuries and did not need medical treatment.
