Skateboarder pulled by vehicle lands in hospital

A South Shore man riding on a skateboard that was being pulled by a truck suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Washoe Medical Center in Reno.

Jesse Denham, 18, suffered cuts to his face, back, arms and legs when he lost grip, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

The 18-year-old driver of the truck, a friend of Denham, left Bijou Community Park and learned he was towing Denham after people started yelling.

Witnesses estimated the 1975 Chevy truck was going 40 mph when the incident happened last week. Denham’s injuries were not life-threatening, the officer said.

— After getting his 2002 Jeep stuck on a fence, a 27-year-old South Lake Tahoe man ran from the vehicle into the woods, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

The man was found hiding behind a house on Winnemucca Avenue and was ordered to the ground by authorities.

The man, who was arrested on drunken driving charges, denied drinking and driving the vehicle, the officer said. A neighbor near the accident, which occurred last week, said he saw the man run from the Jeep.

— After hitting a 2004 Dodge Intrepid while making a wide left turn at the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Emerald Bay Road, a 46-year-old woman was arrested on felony drunken driving charges Saturday evening, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

While being pursued she nearly hit a house and rode up the sidewalk, the officer said. When she was questioned by police, the woman said she didn’t remember hitting the car. The 40-year-old driver of the Intrepid complained of pain to her right shoulder but declined medical attention, the officer said,

— A 17-year-old runaway from Sacramento was taken into custody and sent to juvenile hall after he and friends skipped out from paying a check at Denny’s restaurant, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

The teenager, who was the last one out of the restaurant, had a confrontation with a restaurant employee, the officer said. His shirt became ripped and he abandoned a shoe after the struggle. He was found hiding in the woods near the restaurant.

— A 37-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested on drunken driving charges when she was pulling her 1987 Subaru wagon out of a parking lot near Regan Beach, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

A 21-year-old male passenger stumbled out of the vehicle, began walking away and was taken into custody for being drunk in public, the officer said. A 19-year-old girl, who was with the other two, was taken into custody so she could sober up, the officer added.

— A 45-year-old Stateline woman reported her black lace purse stolen Saturday from a table at Club Altitude inside Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy said.

Inside was an expensive pen, jewelry and $180.
