For being a relatively new team, a five-game win streak is not too shabby.

Tahoe’s new 13-and-under travel baseball team the Sky Sox edged out the Battle Born Mavericks 8-7 in Carson City Sunday to complete a five-game, tournament win streak. Throughout the weekend, the Sky Sox beat the Mavericks twice the Carson Capitals twice and the All Around Baseball School once.

The final game against the Battle Born Mavericks was the team’s closest game in the tournament.

Trailing by two, the Sky Sox mounted a comeback in the fifth inning with Bryin Schouten on second and Peton Galli at the plate. Galli smacked a 320-foot home run over the fence to tie the game at 7-7 and the game went into sudden death extra innings. –

Kyle Danes busted up the tie in the seventh inning when he knocked Kevin Lehmann in for the 8-7 advantage.

Danes also contributed to the Sox’s effort on the mound, throwing 21 strikes through three innings. Ridge Merkley and Chris Pfister also threw for the Sox on Sunday.
