MONTAFON, Austria – Nate Holland of Squaw Valley and teammate Hagen Kearney stuck together for an impressive win at the FIS World Cup team snowboardcross race in Montafon, Austria, on Saturday.

In what was a tight race the entire way through adverse weather conditions, fellow American teammates Jonathan Cheever and Nick Baumgartner came in fourth.

“It was awesome. I always enjoy team races,” Holland said after his win. “After yesterday I was hungry. I didn’t race so well yesterday, but I had to win something in Austria just like two years ago in Lech. I also had some success in Bad Gastein. I like races in Austria; the fans are great and fired up.”

The U.S. team now heads to the first domestic FIS World Cup, the USANA Snowboardcross Cup at Telluride, Colo., starting Thursday. The weekend will close out Saturday with a team SBX racing at the Paul Mitchell Progression Session.

The events will be televised on both NBC and the NBC Sports Network, plus live coverage of Thursday’s skicross finals on the USSA Network.

“It’s great to be in the United States for a World Cup,” said Holland, a seven-time X Games champ. “It really gets me excited for the season. We can always count on Telluride to provide a fun course and enthusiastic fans. I am looking forward to having a strong start of the competition season and being on home turf.”

Snowboardcross and skicross feature four to six athletes going head-to-head down a course featuring jumps, bumps, banks and berms much like motocross on snow.
