Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday awarded eight local organizations a total of $25,000 in grants at Harrah’s.
This year’s recipients were selected from 18 applicants. Members of the SISLT Community Grant Allocations Committee reviewed all of the qualified applications and selected finalists whose applications were evaluated by the entire club. Nine projects were selected and made presentations to the club’s membership, which is comprised of nearly 100 local business and professional women.
“We were overwhelmed by the wonderful work so many groups do in our community,” said Brenda Knox, SISLT’s Grant Allocation chair. “Our members work very hard throughout the year to raise funds for grants to help support the community.”
The following organizations were awarded grants: Tahoe Youth & Family Services, “The Girls Project” and the “Drug Store Project;” Tahoe Arts Project, “Performing Arts in our Schools;” Tahoe Tallac Association, “Valhalla 2014 Music on the Lawn;” El Dorado County, “Ag in the Classroom;” Girls on the Run, “South Lake Tahoe Program;” El Dorado County Search & Rescue, “Arizona Vortex Tripod;” Live Violence Free; Christmas Cheer “Christmas Toy and Food Distribution Project 2014.”
