South Tahoe High names new principal

South Tahoe High School has a new principal.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District announced in an email sent May 17 that Carline Sinkler will be the new principal at the high school.

Sinkler, who has served as principal of Herbert Hoover Middle School in San Francisco Unified School District since 2013, was enthusiastically selected by the interview committees, according to the email.

Principal Chad Houck announced back in March that he would be resigning at the end of the 2016-17 school year, according to a story by South Tahoe Now.

"Ms. Sinkler is committed to building on South Tahoe High School's current strengths in academics, arts and athletics, and to promote a positive culture that celebrates and accelerates each student's unique talents and potential."

As principal of Herbert Hoover Middle School, Sinkler oversaw more than 85 staff members and a population of 1,000 students with diverse linguistic, ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds, according to the email.

Sinkler's past achievements include: ACSA Region 5's Administrator of the Year, San Francisco Mayor's Principal of the Year, SFUSD Innovation Award (cultivating a culture of creative confidence through design thinking), and SFUSD Impact Award (increasing outcomes for English learners).

Sinkler will be in attendance at the May 23 district board meeting. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at the district's education center, located at 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd.
