Two speakers will host a talk Saturday to discuss services available to children in the community.

Megan Ciampa, the director of Foster Family Service in South Lake Tahoe, will speak about the services provided by foster homes and the need for these homes in our community. Amanda Morozumi, case manager for the CASA program in South Lake Tahoe, will speak about the CASA program and the services this program provides to our foster children, according to a press release. Morozumi will explain how CASA represents children as their families go through the court system in hopes that they will be reunited with one or both parents or in some cases see the child through to adoption. Speakers will provide information on training to become a CASA or foster parent.

Every year, hundreds of children from the Tahoe area are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, the release stated. In fall 2012, 290 children from El Dorado County needed foster care. Today, only eight local families willing to care for these children, the release stated. When foster children are able to remain in their community and attend their same school, the comfort of the familiar surroundings lessens the impact of family trauma.

The talk is sponsored by the South Lake Tahoe Branch of the AAUW and will take place from 10:20-11:20 a.m. in the Aspen Room at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
