A little bit of home court advantage might have played a factor in the annual Tahoe Tennis Classic as several Zephyr Cove Tennis Club members either won their division or made it to the finals.

This all-doubles tournament did not disappoint when it came to nail-biting drama on Sunday, the fourth and final day. A record 215 people played in the 34-year-old tournament.

Carolyn Wright of Zephyr Cove and Kim Iliffe of Mill Valley, Calif. were the big winners, both finishing atop the two divisions they entered.

Wright teamed up with Barbara Cooper of South Lake Tahoe in the women's 7.0 division. They cruised to an early first set win, but were then put to the test in the second. They beat Denise Higgins of Gardnerville and Rhoda Shaponik of South Lake Tahoe 6-1, 7-5. All four have been teammates on the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club 3.5 USTA team.

In the 7.0 mixed Wright and Thor Spargo, who is from Fair Oaks, Calif., but plays at Zephyr Cove Tennis Club in the summer, defeated last year's champions Craig and Donna Rockwood of South Lake Tahoe 6-3, 6-2. Donna Rockwood had just been cleared by Barton physical therapy to return to tennis after suffering a knee injury.

The other double winner, Iliffe, paired with Michael Kiskinen of El Dorado Hills, Calif., in the mixed 10.0 to get the best of David Hardern of Gold River, Calif., and Amanda Walker of Gold River 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
