Nearly 400 swimmers flooded the community pool this past weekend for the annual Swimming at Altitude meet, hosted by the Tahoe Swim Club.
South Tahoe swimmers Kirsten Tang, 16, and Lauren Tang, 15, both dominated their age brackets with a collective 18 gold medals.
Kirsten swam to 10 out of 10 gold medals. She finished first in five freestyle events, two breaststroke events, two backstroke races and an individual medley.
Lauren also turned in a remarkable performance with eight gold medals of her own and a silver in the individual medley.
Maggie Albrecht, 17, was also on the medal pace, capturing two silvers and two bronze medals in the freestyle and butterfly.
Albrecht, Kirsten, Lauren and Louie Marin combine for fourth place in a co-ed, 200-yard freestyle relay.
Alex Ottomo, 11, proved she is the up-and-coming South Shore swimmer to beat. She finished second in two events and third in three events.
Among the boys, 8-year-olds Christopher Haven and Westin Terpening teamed up for a combine six top-three finishes. The boys took three medals apiece.
Marin also turned in a standout performance with his three silver medals.
Andrew Carlisle, Nico Wagner, Marcus Haven, Zachary Bellairs, Levi Shambaugh, Brady McIntyre and Temugen Enkhbayar all finished in the top three of their individual events.
Sponsorship from several South Lake Tahoe businesses and the Optimist Club helped make the swim meet possible. The Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe also sent volunteers to run the snack bar in addition to donating.
