The South Tahoe High graduate struck out seven and allowed six hits in leading the San Jose Giants to a 5-3 road victory over Modesto.

His key spot came in the sixth inning when Modesto used four straight hits to cut San Jose’s lead to 5-2. With the bases loaded and one out, Bruso retired the next two batters to escape further damage.

Bruso worked six innings, allowing two earned runs and no walks.



Julian Benavidez delivered the big blow for the Giants with a home run.

Bruso has walked eight batters in 56 innings and has a 2.89 earned run average, which ranks him sixth in the California League.

Keith Anderson, Ramon Soler and Julio Cordido also had two hits each for the Giants, who won the deciding game of the three-game series. San Jose jumped out to a 5-0 lead after four innings against Derell McCall (3-5).

Greg Bruso (4-4) went six innings and allowed six hits, striking out seven and walking none. He pitched out of a jam in the sixth inning, when he allowed four hits but just one run. Matt Bowser’s RBI single made it 5-2, but Bruso retired the next two batters to end the inning with the bases loaded.
