Volleyers sweep league leader Fernley

Mckenna Brewer is back from injury. Sofia Hedqvist is back from playing on Sweden's national 18 and under team. And the South Tahoe volleyball team showed Thursday it is pretty darn good when the full team is together.

The playoff-bound Vikings swept 3A Northern League leader Fernley 3-0 at South Tahoe and have won three straight matches. They've surrendered just one set during their win streak.

"The girls set goals for themselves as well as a team and did a wonderful job working together," said Vikings head coach Kelly Racca. "We minimized our errors and kept our energy consistent."

Hedqvist had a team-high 13 kills while Novel Moses added seven and Brewer six. Kaitlyn Racca served for six aces and Moses added three. Brewer made eight solo blocks and assisted on two more and Hedqvist made two blocks. Moses made 16 digs and Hailey Naccarato added 11. Tyler Pevenage had 31 assists out of the team's 35 kills. And Naccarato received 24 serves and made just three errors.

The Vikings (20-8, 9-6 Northern) will try to knock off the new No. 1 team in league, Truckee (12-3 Northern), at 6 p.m. Monday at South Tahoe on senior night.

"We are looking forward to senior night on Monday against Truckee," Racca said. "A win would boost our confidence going into regionals next Friday."
