Whittell baseball remains unbeaten, improves to 15-0

The Whittell baseball team won three home games in two days this week to remain undefeated on the season. The Warriors beat Sierra Lutheran (Carson City, Nev.) on Tuesday then swept Coleville in a league doubleheader the following day — wins that extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games.

On Tuesday, Whittell (15-0, 7-0 IV Northern) beat Sierra Lutheran 12-1 in a nonleague contest at Lampe Park. Chris Evans threw a five-inning complete game in the win highlighted offensively by four players collecting at least two hits apiece.

Colton Ruby and Peyton Galli each went 3-for-4 with and RBI in the win and Jake Sharp went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Nic Buchholz finished 2-for-4 and Kai Mangiaracina was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

In the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Lampe Park, the Warriors downed visiting Coleville 17-2 in five innings. Quinn Kixmiller pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Whittell's first of two victories over the Wolves.

Ruby had a team-high three hits in the win, finishing 3-for-3. Sharp and Evans both went 2-for-4, Osvaldo Reyes-Lucero was 2-for-3 and Troy Libert had a hit and two RBIs.

Whittell concluded the doubleheader with its highest-scoring contest in league play this season, sweeping Coleville with a 23-5 win in five innings. Sam Berry started the game and pitched three innings — Sharp and Ruby each threw scoreless frames in relief.

In the second game of the twinbill, Sharp and Mangiaracina each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Galli finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Ruby was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Evans had a hit and RBI in two at-bats.

The Warriors return to action Thursday, April 9 in the Greenville Tournament at Greenville High (Calif.). Whittell resumes league play Wednesday, April 18 with a doubleheader at Carlin.
