The undefeated Whittell Warriors put up triple digits Friday night in winning their seventh consecutive football game.

Three Warrior ball carriers rushed for over 230 yards to lead Whittell over the Mineral County Serpents 104-58 at South Tahoe Middle School.

The win sets up an undefeated showdown with Virginia City Saturday, Oct. 21, at Virginia City.

The Warriors’ 104 points were more than two teams in the 1A Northern West 8-Man League have scored through five league games and more than Whittell has given up for the season, even after the 58-point outburst by the Serpents.

“It was an amazing game,” said Whittell head coach Phillip Bryant.

Sophomore quarterback Isaiah Womack rushed for 264 yards on 15 carries, Dalton Warswick had 238 yards on 17 attempts and Corey Huber added 233 on 19 totes to contribute to the Warriors’ total of 775.

Each team’s offense was hardly stopped in the first half. Back and forth it went until Whittell held a 60-44 lead at halftime.

The Warriors created a break on the Serpents second possession. The defense stopped Mineral on fourth down at the Warriors 2.

Warwick answered with a 98-yard touchdown run.

“The O-line made some nice seal blocks, including a great one by Huber for Dalton to get the edge,” Bryant said.

The Warriors lost top linemen Connor Huber and Bastion Elkins to injury during the game but Bryant said Alex Gonzales and Brandon Rojas “stepped in and did a great job of opening holes and finishing plays.”

Womack, the 1A North West leading rusher, went over 1,000 yards for the season (1,123) and is averaging 160 yards per game. He is also completing 73 percent of his passes for the season (40 of 55) for 647 yards.

“Isaiah is really settling in and continues to impress with his running and leadership,” Bryant said. “He did a great job with our no-huddle series and we caught MC several times with too many players on the field.”

Trent Dingman, who missed the previous four games, tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Nic Buchholz with seconds left in the half to open a two-score lead at the break. Mineral had scored twice in less than a minute to make things tight before Dingman’s TD throw.

Corey Huber made 15 stops to lead the Warriors’ defense and Genaro Mena was in on 13 tackles.

“On defense, MC had a great runner and our secondary had to make several tackles,” Bryant said. “We would normally not keep our foot on the gas but against MC you can’t take anything for granted. I think we wore them down with our ground game and hurry up offense. They were chasing runners all night long.”

Whittell and Virginia City now will battle for league supremacy at 1 p.m. Saturday. Each team has been throttling opponents all season and now will get a chance to hit each other.

“It is a great challenge against their size and tradition,” Bryant said. “(VC Head coach) Ron Pressley and his staff do a great job with their kids and we both know everything the other team does. We love going against them and I’m sure they feel the same.”
