Whittell track races at Reed Rotary Invite

Whittell senior Aisha Ceron leads off the 4x200 relay for the Warriors at the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational last weekend at Reed High. Whittell took 17th in the event.

SPARKS, Nev. — The Whittell track and field team took on a field that included bigger schools at the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational last weekend. Whittell sent 12 athletes to the two-day event at Reed High, its toughest test prior to next month's Div. IV Northern League championships.

Whittell's best finish came in the girls 4×200 relay. The Warriors' team of senior Aisha Ceron, sophomore Gisele Aldana, senior Keatzia Aldana and sophomore Michelle Barnes finished 17th with a time of 2:07.89.

Individually, sophomore Samantha Forvilly produced the Warriors' best individual marks at the invitational — including a 19th-place finish in the 300 hurdles (53.92). Forvilly also finished 22nd in the 400 (66.89), 28th in the 100 hurdles (20.33) and 45th in the 200 (30.37).

In the 100, Barnes led the way for Whittell — she placed 50th with a time of 14.39. Sophomore Hannah Brunsman also competed in the event, finishing 51st by running a 14.63.

Keatzia Aldana also delivered a top-50 finish for Whittell in the 400. She ran a 78.19 to finish 28 spots behind Forvilly.

Junior Mary Sanchez competed in both the 800 and 1,600 for Whittell at the invitational, and ran a 7:00.08 in the 1,600 to finish 50th. Ceron also finished in the top 60 in the 1,600, placing 54th with a time of 7:30.04.

The Warriors had one competitor each in the field events. Senior Gisselle Benitez took 42nd in the shotput (23-4) while senior Patricia Juarez placed 57th in the discus (45-6).

On the boys side, each of Whittell's two varsity competitors raced in the 1,600. In the event, sophomore Cole Snyder finished 22nd (5:06.39) while junior Andy Delgado took 52nd (6:05.58).

The Warriors had one athlete in the frosh-soph competition — freshman Noah Bachman. Bachman placed 34th in the 800 (2:44.20) and 60th in the discus (42-3).

The Warriors return to action Saturday, April 18 in the Carson Invitational at Carson High (Carson City, Nev.). The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
