Supervisors wait for general plan

by Jeff Munson, Tribune city editor

El Dorado County leaders will have to wait until next month before they see a draft of a new general plan.

The Board of Supervisors was told Tuesday that the draft should be ready by April 11.

El Dorado County has been without a general plan since February 1999 after a Sacramento judge threw it out, claiming the county didn’t have alternatives to sensitive environmental issues.

The document was to be released March 31. However, the consultant hired to put together the draft said it won’t be finished until April 11 and the draft environmental impact report won’t be ready until May 12.

Supervisor Dave Solaro, whose district includes the Lake Tahoe Basin, said the plan should be approved by December barring any problems. Workshops and public comments will begin in early June, Solaro said.

The plan will include all of El Dorado County, excluding the Lake Tahoe Basin, which is governed by the TRPA. The boundary is at Echo Lake.
