‘That gunk goes right to the lake’: Stenciling Day aims to prevent storm drain misuse
June 7, 2007
The League to Save Lake Tahoe hopes to “Keep Tahoe Blue” by giving the streets a little color this weekend.
Volunteers are needed to help stencil storm drains with the message “No Dumping – Drains to Lake.”
This year, the league also wants to help leaders adopt specific neighborhoods in need of stenciling.
“Many people are not aware that the storm drains on the roadsides in the Tahoe area do not lead to a treatment facility; they lead directly to the nearest stream or river and then straight to Lake Tahoe,” according to a press statement from the league.
All ages are encouraged to participate and no experience is necessary. The League to Save Lake Tahoe will provide all the materials and a volunteer appreciation lunch afterward at their office and informational center.
