Three family races in a new series called Run Through The Holidays will hit the South Shore this fall.
The Tahoe Tri Club teamed up with the City of South Lake Tahoe to host the three races, which will be themed to match each of the approaching holidays.
All three events will offer a 1K fun run for children ages 3-13 years old, a 5K and a 10K run for all ages and ability levels. Prizes will be awarded for “best costume” and “most challenging to run in” along with other fun awards like the “hydra” category where three or more participants have to be physically connected for the entire race.
The first run, called Tahoe’s Freakin’ Fun Run, is a Halloween-themed 5K or 10K scheduled for Oct. 13 at the Lake Tahoe Community College playfields. Participants are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes and run for their lives from, zombies, ghosts and goblins. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the official event starts at 10 a.m.
The second run, named the South Tahoe Turkey Trot, will be held on Nov. 17. The Turkey Trot has been a South Shore tradition for more than 25 years. This event will kick off with 8 a.m. registration followed by a 10 a.m. run at Bijou Community Park.
The series will wrap up with the Jingle Jog Hot Chocolate Run where participants will show their holiday spirit and receive a commemorative mug of hot cocoa as they cross the finish line. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 at Lakeview Commons.
