SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Police are seeking the man responsible for the stabbing death of a 28-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident early Saturday morning near Americana Village Suites on Pioneer Trail.
The incident was reported at about 3:30 a.m. when someone flagged down firefighters who were on their way to an unrelated medical call, according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
Firefighters told police there was a man lying on the ground along Pioneer Trail with a small crowd of people in the general vicinity. When police arrived they found the victim had already been transported by family members to the hospital.
Those who remained said the man had been stabbed during a fight and was bleeding profusely, according to police.
Soon afterward police learned that the victim had been delivered to the emergency room of Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. Medical officials confirmed the victim had been stabbed in the torso area and died despite resuscitation efforts. His name has not yet been released.
Authorities are seeking a white male adult in his early 20s. According to the preliminary investigation, the stabber was walking westbound on Pioneer Trail when he encountered a trio of men talking near Americana Village.
A confrontation turned into a fight and the attacker used an edged weapon to stab the victim in the side, according to police. The man was able to flee the area without being identified. Police say there’s no indication of gang involvement in the incident.
Authorities are reassuring residents that the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence, and there’s no indication people are at any risk.
