Today’s weather: Breezy and a little cooler today, dry and mild on Wednesday

Tom Cylke

A weak upper level trough of low pressure will drop south along the California coast today bringing gusty southwest winds and minor cooling to the Tahoe area today.

Highs today are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds will increase to around 15 to 30 mph in the afternoon generating white caps and 2 to 3 foot waves on the north and east shores of Lake Tahoe.

Lows tonight are forecast to drop into the lower to mid 30s or near the seasonal normal for early September.

A dry northerly flow develops on Wednesday in the wake of the trough passage for mostly sunny skies and light north to northwest winds around 10 mph. Little change in daytime temperatures Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 70s around the lake.

Look for a little warmer temperatures back into the lower 80s by the end of the week as higher pressure aloft rebuilds over the area.
