Trio arrested after taking cemetery spin

Three South Lake Tahoe men were arrested on separate allegations after reportedly taking a joyride in Happy Homestead Cemetery and nearly hitting a groundskeeper Monday afternoon.
Greg Barnhart, 26, was arrested on suspicion of assault with deadly weapon for allegedly driving a light blue Dodge truck into the cemetery, driving in circles and then driving eastbound across the cemetery, South Lake Tahoe police Lt. David Stevenson said.
A groundskeeper at the cemetery tried to stop the truck and was forced to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, according to reports to police.
Police stopped the truck near the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lyons Avenue. Barnhart and two passengers were taken into custody during the stop.
One of the passengers, a 24-year-old South Lake Tahoe man, was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice for allegedly not responding to commands from officers during the traffic stop, Stevenson said.
Another passenger, a 27-year-old South Lake Tahoe man, was arrested after police allegedly found a hypodermic needle in his possession and he showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Barnhart remained in custody in El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe Thursday evening. It is unknown whether he has an attorney.
Damage to the cemetery, if any, was not immediately known Thursday.
