TRPA seeks input on future of South ‘Y’ area

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

A team of residents in June will begin to figure out what type of community plan will work for the South “Y” commercial area.

A 13-member committee was selected from a pool of 30 volunteers. Their plan is expected take one to two years to complete.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will conduct a public hearing regarding the South “Y” group when it meets Wednesday on Kingsbury Grade. The City Council appointed the committee last month.

The committee members are: Steve Leman (medical community); Nichole Zaborsky (environmental); Anthony Columbo (small retail); Frank Jones (large retail); Jerome Evans (recreation); Darrell Schue (commercial property owner); Violet Gay (housing interests); Mark Lucksinger (realty); Steve Kosmides (industrial); Stacey Ballard, Jennifer Cooper, Deb Howard (members at large).

Also at the meeting Wednesday, the TRPA Advisory Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing regarding a proposed change that would affect how the agency evaluates the transit service of the city and the counties in the Lake Tahoe Basin. If approved, the change could affect how many allocations, the right to build a house, each jurisdiction is assigned by the TRPA.
