Update: 4:40 p.m.: Crews reportedly gain control of brush fire near Al Tahoe Post Office
June 23, 2007
Fire crews appear to have gotten a handle on a small brush fire ” about 50 by 100 feet wide ” behind the Post Office off of Al Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe. A plume of smoke can be seen for several miles.
The fire, reported shortly before 4 p.m., had been fueled by wind gusts, according to police scanner reports. Strike teams from around the basin were initially called in and as of 4:40 p.m. some of the fire crews have been turned back. A U.S. Forest Service investigator has been asked to look at the fire scene. No structure have been reported threatened.
The firefighters have got the fire surrounded on all sides and are using hoses and dirt to snuff out the flames, according to Tahoe Daily Tribune photographer Trevor Clark, who is at the scene.
