Vikings pickup preseason performance with win

Staff report

The Vikings stuck to the game plan Saturday, and it paid off in a 59-46 non-conference win against Argonaut High School.

The boys put in work on their free throws and by the end of four quarters they had 67 percent from the line to show for it. Increasing their number of shots and hoop drives are also part of the game plan, and the Vikings did not disappoint. South Tahoe threw up 55 shots in the win.

“I was very proud of the team to keep focused and follow our game plan even though most everything else was not going our way,” head coach Chris Proctor said in email.

Defense and rebounds were also looking sharp for the Vikings. It was great defense and transition lay-ups that saved South Tahoe from a 1-for-14 performance from the three-point range, Proctor said.

Brandon Cramer kept the Vikings in the game early on as they adjusted to the officiating and tried to get a handle on fouls in the first quarter.

Cramer went 7-for-8 at the free throw line and led the team with 20 points and three steals.

Hayden Bronken provided rebounds and put-backs at key moments to keep the momentum rolling. Bronken grabbed four rebounds.

John Cefalu took charge in the third to fuel the Vikings to the win. Cefalu went 3-for-3 on free throws and put up 11 points.

Kyante Wilson led the team defensively. He came away with 13 rebounds, four blocks and two steals.

The boys are now 1-3 in preseason play. They will hit the road Friday to play Elko at 7:30 p.m. as they continue to warm up for league play.
