Vikings soccer sneaks past Sparks

SPARKS, Nev. – Winning never gets old, and it’s a good thing because the South Tahoe girls soccer team is turning in another tremendous season.

The two-time reigning state champions notched their 13th shutout Thursday in Sparks. The girls captured a 4-0 victory and are well on their way to postseason play with a .912 winning percentage.

Hats off went to Alisa Caro, who was tackled inside the box and still managed to fight for the ball to eventually score, according to head coach Chris DeLeon.

In addition to the goal, Caro picked up an assist Thursday. She has now tallied five goals and six assists this season.

Brooke King also netted a goal for the lady Vikings. King is instrumental in South Tahoe’s postseason charge. She leads the team with 16 goals and also has three assists on the season.

Brittany Sanchez and Brianna Carroll accounted for two more goals in the Vikings’ shutout Thursday. Sanchez has collected 12 goals and two assists this year. Carroll leads the team with 10 assists and has five goals.

As far as key players go, different girls seem to step up every week to contribute to the team’s success.

The girls are now 15-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in league. Both the girls and the boys will play their final league home game Thursday against Truckee.
