Warrior boys clean up in Coleville

Staff report

The Whittell boys basketball team traveled to Coleville (2-0) for the Coleville tournament finals Saturday. The boys jumped out to a quick 17-5 lead in the first quarter and held the lead through the final score of 49-36. The Warriors were led by seniors Austin Neil (24 points) and Garrett Bronken (12 points). Garrett Bronken was also the leading rebounder with eight, followed by brother Bryce Bronken’s six. The difference in the game was the defensive pressure applied by Whittell as Coleville committed 26 turnovers.

“We are getting better but have a long way to go to compete with Sout Tahoe, Sparks and the power teams in our league,” head coach Phil Bryant said in an email. “There is a good chance we will be bringing up some freshmen and sophomores to get game experience this year to help build the foundation for the years to come.”

The Warriors are 2-0 as they enter the Whittell tournament this weekend.
