The Barton Memorial Auxiliary will host the South Tahoe Community Blood Drive to meet the community’s need for blood and blood products from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. The drive will take place at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

To give blood, donors must be in generally good health, free from cold symptoms for at least 48 hours, be at least 17 years of age or 16 years with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. There is no upper age limit for donating blood. Prospective donors must bring a photo ID.

The entire process takes about an hour.

Blood donations are used to treat burn victims, transplant patients, people who must undergo surgery, those injured in accident, patients with leukemia and more.

The organizers of the blood drive have a goal to collect 1000 units of blood in 2005. BloodSource has been bringing blood drives to the South Tahoe Community for almost 39 years.

Dog wash to help Whittell

Whittell High School cheerleaders and 2 Dogs & A Cat are planning a fund-raising dog wash from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and May 22, weather permitting. The event will take place at 2 Dogs & A Cat, The Village Center, 4000 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The cost is $10 and proceeds will go to the Whittell High School cheerleading squad, Douglas County Animal Shelter and El Dorado County Animal Shelter.

In addition, dogs and cats will be present that are available for adoption.

SIRS to hold lunch meeting

South Lake Tahoe Branch of Sons in Retirement will meet Monday at Teps Villa Roma, 3450 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Officers will meet at 10 a.m. followed by a social hour at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon.

Event to benefit Women’s Center

A Mother’s Day fund-raiser to benefit the South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center will take place through May 7.
