Party is to honor teacher

The community is invited to celebrate a lifetime of achievement at a retirement party in honor of Maxine Atherton, who is retiring from George Whittell High School after 29 years. She has been a teacher for 44 years.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. June 24 at Round Hill Pines Beach in Round Hill. The cost is $15 per person for dinner. Reservations must be made by today and paid in advance. Make checks payable to Kathleen Kixmiller and mailed to P.O. Box 5695, Stateline, NV 89449 or taken to Whittell High School. Reading program a mystery

The Douglas County Public Library Lake Tahoe branch will continue its weekly storytimes this summer Thursdays at 11 a.m.

“Get a Clue” is the theme for this year’s summer reading program. Stories, crafts and activities will have a mystery theme. The programs are for children ages 3 and up. Young children should be accompanied by an adult.
