In celebration of Men’s Health Month, the Barton HealthCare System announces special lab draw dates just for men scheduled for Thursday at the Barton Memorial Hospital Express Lab and Friday at Stateline Medical Center Outpatient Services Lab.

Men’s Health Month is designed to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Wellness draws are from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Appointments are necessary and can be made online at http://www.bartonhealth.org/lab or by calling the Barton Hospital laboratory at (530) 543-5855, selecting option 2, then selecting option 3.

In support of this important effort, men may take advantage of the Men’s Wellness Panel ($40) and other tests including a PSA – Prostate Cancer Screening ($30), TSH – Thyroid Evaluation ($30), and Hemoglobin A1c ($35).

To accommodate the overwhelming response to the Barton lab draws, two more dates have been added to this summer’s lineup: July 17 and Aug. 14. For a complete lab draw schedule, go to http://www.bartonhealth.org/lab/.

The Lake Tahoe Writing Club Bare Bones Open Mic night will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Valhalla Grand Hall. The evening will benefit “Tahoe: Lost & Found,” an art show and summerwide community event that aims to recapture the sense of community that existed during the Angora fire. Proceeds will go toward replacement of South Lake Tahoe Branch Library books lost in the fire.

Poets, writers, musicians and comedians are welcome to come share their work. This event is free and open to the community. Wine will be available by the glass by donation.
