Wildfire burns in Round Hill
September 21, 2012
A fire has burned between 1.5 and 2 acres near Elks Point Road in the Round Hill area.
The fire, which is on U.S. Forest Service land, is not threatening structures at this time, said Forest Service spokeswoman Cheva Heck.
She said firefighters appeared to be getting a handle on the blaze, which started about 4 p.m. An air tanker is expected to make a drop on the fire, Heck said.
No evacuations have been ordered at this time, said Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District spokesman Eric Guevin. The fire is burning between Sewer Plant Road and Elks Point Road, Guevin said. He urged residents of the Elks Point and Chimney Rock neighborhoods to be aware of the situation and be prepared in the event the fire worsens.
The fire appears to be suspicious and human-caused, Guevin said.
