Man, 19, in critical condition after nearly drowning in Lake Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Emergency crews saved the life of a man who nearly drowned Wednesday afternoon near Sand Harbor State Park on Lake Tahoe’s east shore.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived at the state park at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, NLTFPD Chief Mike Brown said.

According to media reports, the 19-year-old man was swimming near the boat ramp when he yelled for help. An off-duty nurse eventually pulled him out of the water.

NLTFPD crews performed CPR on the man and got him breathing again, Brown said, and he was transported via CareFlight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

“There was a return of pulse, with ventilation assistance provided by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District ... before CareFlight took over,” Brown said.

The man, whose name and place of residence are unknown, was reportedly in critical condition late Wednesday.
