LUNAFest Film, Food and Wine Festival to benefit Breast Cancer Fund, Girls on the Run

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — The fifth annual LUNAFest Film, Food, and Wine Festival, the signature fundraiser for Girls on the Run – Sierras, will be held at the Olympic Village Lodge on March 8, 2014. The event is presented by Squaw Valley as part of SnowFest!

Girls on the Run is a local youth development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using an experience based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Last year’s event sold out with 250 attendees and over $20,000 was raised to support Tahoe programs.

Tickets include food samplings from local chefs, wine tastings, a silent auction, live music provided by the Angele and Wildwood Band, and award-winning film screenings.

TICKET INFORMATION

Last year’s event sold out with 250 attendees. Limited $35 advance ticket sales are available here. A limited number of event day of tickets will be available at the door for $45. Tickets include the film screening, food and wine tastings, live music, and the silent auction. The event will be held at the Squaw Valley Conference Center, formerly Olympic Village Lodge, located at 1901 Chamonix Place in Olympic Valley. WINERIES AND CUISINE

LUNAFest will feature wine from Domain Saint Michelle, PlumpJack Winery, Stanger Vineyards and Clif Family Winery as well as local microbrews from Fifty Fifty Brewery. Participating restaurants include Bistro 22, Dragonfly, Fireside Pizza, Mamasake, Soupa and Squaw Valley Catering. Desserts will be provided by Batch Cupcakery, Sugar Pine Bakery, Tahoe House, and Wildflour.

Attendees will have a chance to bid on a wide variety of silent auction items including a year of dining out for two at Lake Tahoe area restaurants, a salsa and sangria package, a six-person wine tasting in Sonoma, and more.

LUNAFEST FILMS

LUNAFest was established in 2000 by LUNA, makers of the whole nutrition bar for women, to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women’s issues and support worthy women’s nonprofit organizations. This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

GIRLS ON THE RUN REGISTRATION OPEN

Event proceeds benefit Girls on the Run-Sierras and the Breast Cancer Fund. Girls on the Run is a youth development program that instills self-esteem in girls through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training.

The after school program meets twice a week for 10 weeks and culminates in a celebratory, non-competitive 5K fun run. Since the first season in 2007, Girls on the Run- Sierras (GOTR-S) has educated and empowered 969 girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Girls on the Run- Sierras is kicking off its spring season for third to fifth-grade girls in Truckee, Kings Beach, Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe.
