Crystal Bay hosts local showcase

Crystal Bay Casino at the North Shore hosts a free local’s showcase that features a pair of Lake Tahoe favorites this weekend.

Mama’s Cookin’ and Peter Joseph Burtt and the King Tide perform as part of the Saturday showcase.

Peter Joseph Burtt and the King Tide features Burtt’s innovative use of traditional African instruments.

“Peter Joseph Burtt draws from many sources and chronicles the years that he spent living and studying with master musicians of Africa,” according to the band’s press kit. “Much of his music is played on traditional instruments like the 26 stringed kora and the Mbira, as well as the guitar and soulful vocals.”

Mama’s Cookin’ closes out Saturday’s show.

“Mixing break-beats and hip-hop with dirty tough neo-blues and bottle-neck slide, (Mama’s Cookin’) has created an innovative new roots-rock sound,” according to their Facebook page. “Their style is as much Led Zeppelin at it is The Roots. Smooth but edgy, modern with an essential nod to the great music of the past. Songs of true beauty and deep intention, crafted with unique and timely lyrics, leave a lasting impression.”

Zeb Early’s Smoked Out Soul performs at the show’s after-party. The performance features Mama’s Cookin’ frontman Zebuel Early as a DJ, as well as playing guitar.
