Tip of the Week: Keeping your kids active this spring/summer

EDITOR’S NOTE: “Tip of the week” is a periodic feature running in the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, in partnership with the Incline Village General Improvement District, providing locals with various tips pertaining to the recreation opportunities and services the district provides.

Summer will be here and the kids out of school before you know it. With all this extra time, it’s important to plan activities and make sure they don’t spend all their spare time on their electronic devices.

Physical activity is essential for growing kids and can improve their overall well-being and self-esteem among other positive benefits.

Below are a few tips and local activities to help keep your kids and family active this spring and summer.

Play as a family. Find an activity the whole family enjoys. Whether it’s hiking, kicking around a ball, disc golf, playing tag, or something else, have fun and get outside together.

Try something new. Challenge your kids to try a new sport or activity. Incline Village Parks & Recreation hosts a wide variety of activities for all ages and abilities such as swimming, basketball, Shotokan Karate, tennis and more.

Sign up for summer camp. Camps are a great way to keep the kids occupied for longer stretches and helps add a little structure to your summer. Incline Village Parks & Recreation hosts a variety of day camps in June, July and August:

• USTA Quick Start Youth Tennis Camps

• Camp XTREME

• Middle School Volleyball Skills Camp

• Incline Basketball Camp with Tim Kelly

• Slammin’ Sports & Fitness Camp
