Another successful grant season came to a close for Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and The Martis Fund partnership. On Feb. 14, nine local nonprofit organizations dedicated to environmental conservation efforts around the Tahoe Basin were awarded a collective $107,500 in grants by the partnership of TTCF’s Nature Fund and The Martis Fund.
Among those awarded were:
Truckee River Watershed Council: TRWC’s mission is to help restore resources to the Truckee River watershed. Their restoration project at Prosser Creek will help rebuild fish and wildlife habitats destroyed by the Prosser Creek Dam. Total amount awarded: $27,500.
Truckee Donner Land Trust: Truckee Donner Land Trust will focus on road and trail restoration throughout the Elizabethtown Meadows which includes a mile-long stretch of the Martis Creek. Total amount awarded: $25,000.
Sugar Pine Foundation: The Sugar Pine Foundation strives to reintroduce sugar pines into the Tahoe Basin by planting saplings resistant to invasive strains of fungi. Total amount awarded: $5,000.
The Nature Fund and The Martis Fund have partnered together for four years to help support Lake Tahoe’s environmental non-profits. This year marks an important milestone for both programs as they continue to grow and give back to the Truckee/Tahoe community. Currently, TTCF has begun to launch their 15/20/20 campaign to celebrate and highlight 15 years of philanthropic work in the Truckee/Tahoe region. The Martis Fund is celebrating seven years of conservation efforts in the Martis Valley.
Established in 2006, the Martis Fund supports programs to conserve open space; manage and restore habitat and forest lands; and promote opportunities for workforce housing and related community purposes in the Martis Valley Region. Funding for grant programs comes from private community benefit fees. Martis Fund is a collaborative project of Martis Camp landowners, DMB/Highlands Group (the developers of Martis Camp), Mountain Area Preservation (MAP), and Sierra Watch.
