Soul Train lives on at Truckee’s Bar of America

Bust out those afros, strap on those heels and get ready to get down. The hippest trip in America is coming back. Rambo Party Productions will host their second annual Soul Train Dance Party at Truckee’s Bar of America June 14.

“We want to bring back 1972 in all its glory,” said Rambo’s chief artistic director Rusty Reams. “Leave your ego at the door and get ready to get funky.”

The party will feature DJ Mancub, Big Perm, Dub Fyah and Ground$core spinning a variety of funk. There will also be lasers — a lot of lasers.

“We really pride ourselves in how many lasers we bring to the event,” Reams said.

The dress-up party is meant to pay homage to the show, which ended its 35-year run in 2006. The show, the longest running in television history, featured dancers of all stripes, grooving to host Don Cornelius’ favorite music – funk. Reams hopes the Bar of the America’s party will inspire the same kind of groove, he said.

“Why Soul Train? Because when you dress up, you can release yourself in any way,” Reams said. “You can develop this persona of a real groover.”
