Humane Soceity of Truckee-Tahoe hires long-time volunteer

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — Emily Watt, a long-time volunteer at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, was recently hired as the organization’s new animal programs manager.

Watt has been helping out at HSTT for six years and was named the best volunteer in the Sierra Sun’s Best of North Tahoe & Truckee poll. Originally from the Chico area, Watt wholeheartedly loves all animals and enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her adopted dog Ruby.

“It’s wonderful to be able to bring Emily on board in an official capacity,” said Stephanie Nistler, executive director of HSTT. “She’s amazing with people as well as animals and has been a member of our volunteer family for some time.”

To build awareness of the Humane Society’s new animal shelter, take a free hard hat tour Friday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. To reserve a spot, call 530-587-5948 or email steph@hstt.org.

The HSTT shelter, which will be open to the public 40 hours per week, will provide much-needed expanded space and replace a dilapidated, inadequate facility. The new facility is expected to be operational this fall.

Founded in 1994 by a group of volunteers, the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe has become a driving force of animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe area. Over the last decade it has evolved to a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with four employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, offering a variety of services and programs, including adoption days, fostering, public education, pet-assisted therapy, and community spay and neuter programs.

In 2013 the organization was voted the best nonprofit in North Tahoe & Truckee by Sierra Sun readers.
