160-pound bear trapped, released at Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Wildlife officials captured a 2-year-old, 160-pound male black bear in a trap Thursday near Lake Tahoe’s North Shore.

According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the trap was moved from a location near Gardnerville, Nev., on Wednesday morning and set at a location in Incline Village.

The “dispersal age” male bear had never been handled by NDOW before, according to a press release. It has been tranquilized and processed, which includes affixing an ear tag, capturing various DNA samples and tattooing an area in the bear’s mouth.

The bear was to be released Friday morning in the Mt. Rose wilderness, away from roads, so NDOW can perform aversion conditioning on the bear.
