Dave Luning plays double-header at Moody’s in Truckee

Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats his headed toward a two-night stand with Americana this weekend, with two performances by singer/songwriter David Luning. The musician plays a combination of Americana, folk, country and rock with guitar, piano and harmonica, according to his website.

Luning released his first album late last year.

“David Luning’s debut americana/rock album, ‘Just Drop on By,’ has been called ‘a gritty, joyful, soulful piece of Americana,’ ‘a phenomenal experience’ and ‘an album you’ll want to revisit again and again,’” according to the site. “David himself has been called ‘one of those exceedingly rare talents who deserves your full attention.’”

“He performs in house concerts and small venues as a captivating solo act, and also performs in bigger venues with top notch players collectively called the David Luning Band,” according to the site.

Luning attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he was a music major.

He’s opened for artists including Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, Carolyn Wonderland, Aaron Lewis and Junior Brown and lists John Prine, Hayes Carll, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Todd Snider and Bon Iver among his influences.

“His solo show is intimate, insightful, and funny,” according to his website.
