Boil order issued for South Shore residents

All customers of Lukins Brothers Water Co. are under a boil order until further notice. They should boil water or buy bottled water for all drinking and food preparation as a safety precaution.

The company issued the order Thursday, Nov. 14 after testing detected coliform bacteria in its system.

People affected by the order should buy bottled water or boil their tap water for at least one minute and then let it cool before using for drinking or food preparation.

Failure to follow the advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness, the company warns on its website.

The boil order affects all 963 customers of the company, according to the El Dorado County Community Development Agency Environmental Management Division.

The coliform was detected in an isolated area and Lukins elected to issue the boil order as a precaution to customers. The company says it will inform customers when tests show the water is safe to drink without boiling. It anticipates resolving the problem within one week.
