Winter Welcome Party a Toy for Tots fundraiser, holiday concert

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The River Ranch Restaurant and Lodge will host the fifth annual Family Winter Welcome Toys for Tots party on Monday, Dec. 9.

This community event is an evening of casual fun, food and music for all. The North Tahoe High School Jazz Ensemble, led by Dean Norby, will perform a free concert with traditional holiday music starting at 6 p.m.

There will be free s’mores on the patio for children. They can roast their marshmallows by the fire near the River Ranch Christmas tree, with home-made Christmas cookies served for everyone.

There will also be a collection of new unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program.

Elaine Durazo, local community organizer, is authorized to conduct the Toys for Tots campaign in communities without a local Marine Reserve Unit.

Durazo organizes the program for the Tahoe/Truckee area that covers three counties with portions of Placer, Nevada and El Dorado. While Elaine’s role is to coordinate and manage the program she emphasizes, “the ultimate success of the program depends on support of the local communities and generosity of the people who donate toys and monetary donations.”

Donate a new unwrapped toy for children from newborn to 17 years of age.

The River Ranch bar is open at 4:30 p.m. and dining room is open at 5:30 p.m. While listening to the holiday concert, guests are welcome to join the River Ranch for dinner and their Happy Hour will be available, with a deeply discounted Café menu and toasty hot buttered rum beverages.

The restaurant is located at the corner of Highway 89 and Alpine Meadows Road.
