Truckee police investigating Glenshire mail thefts

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee Police Department is reminding residents to regularly collect mail from street-side mailboxes to avoid potential theft or vandalism.

Officers received numerous reports Tuesday of mail being stolen or tampered with from residential mailboxes in the Glenshire area.

“Criminals often use mailboxes as a source for collecting personal information to use for identity theft,” the department said in a statement. “It is not unusual for mail theft to increase during the holiday season with the number of packages being shipped and delivered, as well as cash gifts being sent in holiday cards.”

On Tuesday, TPD Sgt. Robert Womack said there are no suspects in the Glenshire incidents.

Police recommend residents collect mail after it’s delivered, or on a daily basis. Additional steps include shredding junk mail and old bills, and using the post office for outgoing mail.
