Village Notes: What’s happening in Incline Village

I know this will not be everyone’s favorite reminder, but Tax Day is happening on Tuesday, and it is the last day for doggy visits to Ski Beach. But if you have already finished filing the dreaded tax information go enjoy spring at Tahoe.

At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, the North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation will hold its annual Passover Mountain Seder at Granlibakken Resort in Tahoe City. Reservations need to be made by April 10 to Ernie Grossman at 530-550-0570 or ernestgrossman@sbcglobal.net or Rose at rlorenstein@gmail.com in order to attend.

The Tahoe Nevada Chapter of AAUW will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center. This month’s speaker is Pamela Miller, World History and Government teacher at Incline High School. She will share experiences from an exchange visit to Indonesia and her Indonesian hostess, Umi Safari will be joining the presentation. RSVP no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, April 14, to Kelly at kellyaauw@gmail.com or 775-762-0463.

It is time for the Incline Star Follies. Tickets are now on sale at Potlatch and they are selling fast. This annual event is one of Incline’s best and will be held at Incline High School Theater this year.

At 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Mark Twain Cultural Center & Toccata Guttman Music Hall hear Michael Makley, author of just published, “Saving Lake Tahoe.” To purchase tickets email mcavoylane@gmail.com or call 775-833-1835.

The Empty Bowls event will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, at the Holman Arts and Media Center located at 1008 Highway 28. This annual event to fight international hunger benefits Project MANA, Meals on Wheels and the Deacon’s Food Closet. Choose a bowl created by local art students or instructors and keep the bowl after you enjoy a meal of soup and bread. Visit www.emptybowls.net for more information.

At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, Tahoe Family Solutions will host its annual dinner at Big Water Grille. For tickets or information visit www.tahoefamily.org or call 775-298-0004.

Congratulations to Susan Herron for completing the Santa Anita Derby Day 5K walk last Saturday to raise money for the humane treatment of retired race horses. And also for participating in the National MS Society walk around the Rose Bowl on Sunday to help raise $1 million for MS to support her nephew. Way to walk Susan.

We had local two bowling teams competing in the Battle of the Houses last weekend: Team Smevik and Team Wilburg. Even though the trophy will not be at Bowl Incline, they gave it a good shot. Good job bowlers.

Happy anniversary to Jim Glazier and Millie Szerman on April 15.

I have a couple of birthdays that did not get into last week’s column. Happy belated birthday to Bill Black and Robin Smith on April 6. Other birthdays to celebrate: Gerry Eick on April 13; John Paganelli on April 14; Incline’s Mr. Chocolate, Aaron Zendner, on April 15, and Allen Ferris on April 17. Happy Birthday!

The best deal and steal this week is the annual Underwater Egg Hunt at the Incline Village Recreation Center pool starting at noon on Saturday, April 12. For information call 775-832-1310 or stop at the Rec. Center.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
