Teen Creative Writing Club
The Creative Writing Club kicked off on Monday, April 14 and will meet every Monday from 3-4:30 p.m. until the school year ends — and possibly over summer — at the Family Resource Center of Truckee (near KidZone Museum on Donner Pass Road). The club is headed by Jackie McKinney, an AmeriCorps Volunteer and published writer. There will be two workshops a month from Karen Terry of Tangled Roots Writing. Break writer’s block, learn new skills, make new friends, and see where professional writing can take you.
Golfing for Schools cards
Golfing season is right around the corner and the Excellence in Education Foundation Golfing for Schools Cards go on sale Saturday, April 19. The $325 transferable cards are an excellent value and are valid for 18-holes of play at seven of North Tahoe and Truckee’s premiere golf courses including: Coyote Moon, Northstar, Old Greenwood, Resort at Squaw Creek, Tahoe City, Tahoe Donner and Gray’s Crossing. Alder Creek Middle School parent night
Incoming sixth-grade parents’ orientation, Tuesday, April 22, begins at 4:45 p.m. in the gym. Alder Creek Middle School will hold an informational parent focus night. Wildflower Talk with Cliff Lambson

BGCNLT fundraising breakfast
World’s first licensed armless pilot Jessica Cox will speak at Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe’s Annual Breakfast. Jessica will address Club members and local youth who wish to attend at the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe on May 9 at 4:30 p.m. All kids and families are welcome to this free event.

Teen Open Mic and concert
The last Open Mic & Free Show of the school year will be at Coffeebar is Saturday, May 10, 6:30-9 p.m. There will be a local artist performing and hosting the event. Take your songs, your poems, stories, comedy and more while enjoying some great coffee! There will be a prize giveaway, including a secret Apple prize.
The Family Resource Center of Truckee seeks high school students as a Street Team to help promote events and activities. Get your community service hours. Continued volunteerism can help you not only gain experience, but gather references for future endeavors.

Raising Backyard Chickens Workshop
Slow Food Lake Tahoe along with Board Member and Truckee River Sanctuary owner, Polly Triplat will present a Backyard Chicken Raising Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 10 at the Truckee River Sanctuary.
Find out if: backyard chickens are for you; whether you may legally have hens in your town/city; and what it takes to keep them safe from predators. In addition, the workshop will cover basic coop design, feeding, handling and selection of cold hardy breeds. See a Sierra backyard flock first hand, with time for questions and the handling of hens.

Volunteer Trails & Vistas
Trails & Vistas is an art hike created by people who love the blending of art in nature. People with different talents volunteer for Trails & Vistas every year. Serve as an art hike storytelling guide, a greeter who welcomes visitors to the art hikes or world concert, volunteer during the Arts in Nature Field Trips for third grade students on Tuesday, Sept. 9 or help out in the largest fundraiser of the year, Truckee’s Historical Haunted Tour on Oct. 16 and 17.
