Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers meeting
Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers will meet on Thursday, May 15, beginning at 5 p.m. for a Fly Rod Casting Clinic and social meeting on the Truckee River near Squaw Valley. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their fly rod to get pointers from club members on casting techniques as well as an appetizer to share, the beverage of their choice and a chair.
The meeting is free to attend and all are welcome — from beginner to expert fly fishers.
Join Truckee River Watershed Council for Snapshot Day on May 17
Snapshot Day is the one day each year when the water quality of the entire Tahoe-Truckee watershed from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake is measured simultaneously, providing a “snapshot” of the water quality of the region.
Join hundreds of regional volunteers on May 17 and help take a snapshot of the water quality for the entire Tahoe-Truckee watershed to kick offthe Adopt-a-Stream monitoring season.

Sierra Nevada Journey open house
Sierra Nevada Journeys (SNJ) Open House offers prospective campers and families an open house, day-in-the-life of a camper, on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A festive summer lunch will be available from 11:30 to 2 p.m. for $5 and free for teachers with school id..
SNJ summer camp is located at 5900 Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, Calif., and offers a summer camp experience immersed in outdoor science learning, teamwork and leadership.
Take guided tours, enjoy kayaking, archery, crafts and meet the trained instructors. SNJ Chief Executive Officer Eaton Dunkelberger will be on hand to answer questions. Sign-up children ages 8 to 17 for camp. For those who attend the open house, post pictures of your stay to compete to win a free week of camp.

CLA open meeting
Spend an evening with Custom Learning Academy at Martis Camp on May 15 for its annual Enrollment Event. The event is an evening out (for adults only) of current CLA student and interested families. Inspired Adventure Spring Festival
Inspired Adventure Spring Festival at Kindred Art and Folk Institute is an all-ages event, May 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., that celebrates nature, art and music while helping raise funds for scholarships, project supplies and transportation for Kindred’s out of the studio treks.
Expect something for everyone at the Community Art Center on Church Street in Truckee, with free activities such as an obstacle course, live music, May pole dancing, drum circle, games and crafts. Other activities will include an artisan marketplace, make and take art stations, henna tattoos, wholesome food and special presentations.

Friday, May 23, the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band will present “Hollywood Jazz.” The concert will feature selections from hit movies from yesterday and today including, “Skyfall,” “Greased Lightning,” “Footloose,” and “Spiderman” just to name a few. The concert will take place at Oscar Central AKA the North Tahoe High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and kids and $10 for adults and the class of 2014 gets in free. Teachers from anywhere get the $5 rate. The show starts at 7 p.m. See you at the Oscars.

InnerRhythms’ annual “Recycled Riches” Garage Sale will take place on Saturday, May 24, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., 12047 Donner Pass Road in the Tri-Counties Bank Plaza in Truckee. Veterans Hall fundraiser
On Tuesday, May 27, 6-10 p.m. the Friends of the Truckee Veterans Memorial Building will hold a fundraiser at the Bar of America. Proceed will be used to restore and renovate this building that honors veterans, past, present and future. the Veterans Hall will also provide a place for community use. There will be multiple bands and drink specials.
