Good Dirty Fun Trail Work

Truckee’s beloved trails need love each year — ongoing maintenance to keep them in safe and sustainable condition. For five years the Truckee Trails Foundation (TTF), in partnership with the Truckee Donner Land Trust and United States Forest Service (USFS) has held volunteer days. This year, a generous grant from the Vail Echo Resorts Program is funding planning and crew leaders for volunteer days.

The TTF has four volunteer trail days scheduled, the first being May 17 on the Sawtooth Trail. TTF will provide crew leaders, tools and safety equipment. Big Blue Adventure trail day sponsorship includes a $30 credit toward any 2014 Big Blue Adventure event, lunch and refreshments. Water bottles provided by Vail Echo.

Sawtooth trailhead, off USFS 06, can be accessed from Thelin Drive in Sierra Meadows. Take Palisades Drive to Silver Fir and turn right. Take Silver Fir to Thelin and turn left. Turn right at the green gate of 06 road and follow to the trailhead on your right.

Help maintain the Sawtooth trail by brushing back overgrowth and light tread maintenance.

Additional volunteer trail days planned this summer include: June 14, Upper Emigrant Trail sponsored by Paco’s Truckee Bike & Ski; Aug. 9 and 10, Hole in the Ground Trail sponsored by Tahoe Dave’s Boards & Skis and Olympic Bike Shop and Sept. 6, Emigrant Trail sponsored by Biking for a Better World.
